Storey Avenue Mixed-Use Rezoning Study

The City of Newburyport received a State Planning Assistance Grant to update zoning and improve infrastructure along the Storey Avenue business district. The goal is to create a walkable, bike-friendly, mixed-use neighborhood by encouraging new commercial development, affordable housing, and safer streets for pedestrians and cyclists. Planned changes include better sidewalks, new bike lanes, reduced curb cuts, shared parking, and locating buildings closer to the street. Public meetings started in summer 2024, and proposed zoning updates are expected by mid-2025. These efforts support local businesses, increase housing options, and promote safer, more sustainable travel.
